Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad asked EC officials to work for the next general elections neutrally and transparently as holding polls this time will be an uphill task.
“The next parliamentary election is nearing. It involves a lot of preparation to hold the polls. You have tough times ahead,” he warned officials on Saturday.
You should work impartially to pass this tough examination,” he said at the first general meeting of the Bangladesh Election Commission Services Officers’ Association at the LGED Bhaban in the capital.
Kazi Rakibuddin urged them to work for the interest of the nation.
He stressed higher priority be given to the interest of the nation before the institution and personal needs.
However, the CEC said, the EC needs a lot of manpower to hold the parliamentary polls. If officials of the EC are intelligent and trained, it would be easy for them to get the job done properly during the election.
The CEC advised them to learn about the laws. “You have no chance to go slow while making polls preparation.”
The CEC said he would put forward the necessary directives to the officials concerned before the elections.
EC Secretary Dr Mohammad Sadik said, “You can leave nothing for tomorrow. There is no tomorrow. We should do everything on time.”
Convener of the association and Joint Secretary of EC Jesmin Tuli said the EC appointed over 500,000 people to hold the parliamentary elections.
About 300 officials of the EC secretariat and root-level employees were present at the meeting.
