Jamaat activist held in city

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab 2) personnel arrested a Jamaat-e-Islami activist with 26 leaflets containing anti-state statements at the capital’s Kalabagan on Tuesday evening.

A Rab 2 team led by Major Himadri Shekhar arrested the Mahbubur Rahman Shahim, 37, while he was distributing the leaflets, said Raihan Uddin Khan, a senior assistant superintendent of police and also a Rab2 official.

When asked, ASP Raihan said the leaflets contained various provocative statements against the state and government relating to Hefajat-e-Islam.

The detained Jamaat man was taken to the Rab 2 office, and the process for filing a case against him under Anti-Terrorism Acts was underway, ASP Raihan added.
