Khulna District Bus-Minibus-Coach Owners’ Association and Khulna Motor Workers’ Union enforced an indefinite strike in Khulna division on Monday morning in a move to stop the movement of shallow engine-run human haulers on roads and highways, reports UNB.
No long-distance bus or truck was seen on the roads of 10 districts under the division after the strike started in the morning, cutting off the districts from the capital.
Some other small modes of transport such as microbuses, battery-run three-wheelers and easy-bikes were plying the roads as usual despite the strike.
Anwar Hossain Sona, general secretary of Khulna Bus-Minibus-Coach Owners’ Association, said the strike was called protesting the repeated false assurances from the government to remove the shallow engine vehicles, likeNasiman and Kariman, from the highway.
Zakir Hossain Biplob, general secretary of Khulna Motor Worker’s Union, said the roads of Batiaghata, Gallamari, Paikgachha and Hatibunia were also blocked by the union workers during the strike.
