RMG workers block highway in capital

Workers of four garments factories blocked highway in Kuril Bishwa Road area of the capital disrupting traffic movement for two hours Sunday morning.

Hundreds of workers of Mohammadia, Platik, ATN and Nasa garment factories blocked the highway at 9am demanding a raise of salary, bonus and other allowances.

On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control at 11am.

Witnesses said the garment workers engaged in scuffle with police as the law enforcers forcefully tried to move them from the highway.

Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Khilkhet police station, confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

The office going people have to face severe traffic congestion in the morning as vehicular movement from Kuril Bishwa Road to Airport remained suspended for two hours during the blockade.
