Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested nine leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, including its Shutrapur unit chief, early Saturday on charges of planning subversive acts and hatching conspiracies.
Fazle Rabbi, operation officer of Rab 10, said Abdul Hamid, chief of the local unit of Jamaat, and eight others were arrested at a house while they were holding a clandestine meeting as part of a planning for subversive acts.
He, however, declined to disclose the identities of the rest of the arrestees saying detailed information would be provided at a press briefing scheduled for 12pm at the Rab 10 headquarters in Dhalpur in the capital’s Jatrabari area.
