BTRC blocks four IGWs’ connections

The telecom regulator on Sunday finally blocked four International Gateway Operators’ (IGW) full traffic calls as they failed to share revenue for January to March period with the regulator within the stipulated time.

The four firms are Ratul Telecom Limited, Vision Tel Limited, Digicon Telecommunication Limited and Kay Telecommunications Ltd. They were asked to make the payments by July 25.

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Sunday sent “block full traffic call” letters to all Inter-Connection Exchange (ICX), and all mobile and land phone operators as well.

The Dhaka Tribune has obtained all those letters signed by Md Mesbahuzzaman, a BTRC deputy director.

Vision Tel Limited, one of the top defaulters with Tk900m in dues, is an associate company of Cloud Tel Ltd, half-owned by a daughter of former communications minister Syed Abul Hossain, which, however, claims they already sold out the shares.

Ratul Telecom Limited, run by Syeda Amrin Rakhi, daughter of LGRD State Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, owes Tk700m to the BTRC. The company is half-owned by Rakhi and 20% more by her mother Syeda Arzuman Banu.

Digicon Telecommunication Limited got the licence through a reference of ruling party lawmaker barrister Fazle Noor Tapas, a nephew of the PM.
