Like previous years, no special train in the Rajshahi-Dhaka route will be operating during this Eid.
Ferdous Alam, general manager of Western Zone railway, said, “During the recent agitation of Jamaat-Shibir over the verdict Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, several compartments were torched.
The incident resulted into shortage of bogies. That is why no special train is being introduced this year,”
But the railway authorities will add extra compartments to all intercity trains for the inconvenience of passengers, he added. Currently three trains are operating on the route, namely, Silk City, Padma Express and Dhumketu Express.
Since these trains are operating, no special train for homebound people during Eid is introduced, said Ferdous.
Advance tickets for intercity trains between Rajshahi and Dhaka will be on sale from July 25, sources said. Passengers willing to travel by trains during the holidays of upcoming Eid-ul-fitr have expressed disappointment over the decision.
