When it comes to Italian dishes, the meaty delight of Bolognese sauce is unbeatable. Rich and filled with the tang of tomatoes, this versatile sauce tastes delicious with just about any pasta. This recipe is a simpler version of the Bolognese that is just as flavourful as its more complicated counterpart. Serve it with fettucine pasta and grated cheese, and you have a winning dish at hand.
Ingredients
500g minced beef
100g celery, chopped
100g carrots, chopped
100g onions, chopped
300g tomatoes, chopped
1 can tomato paste
oil to saute
100g dried oregano
100g mixed Italian herbs
chopped parsley for garnish
grated cheese for garnish
200g fettuccine pasta to serve
Saute the minced meat in a pot with oil and dried herbs till it gives out oil. Set aside.
In another cooking pot, saute the onions, celery and carrots until translucent. Add the tomatoes and cook for another 15 minutes before adding the tomato paste and 200ml water. Cover and let cook for 15 minutes. Add the herbs and meat, and cook for another 20 minutes till the sauce becomes thicker. Season with salt and pepper. Boil the pasta for serving. Once done, serve it with the Bolognese sauce and garnish it with grated cheese and parsley.
