‘Sammilita Sangskritik Jote to prevent Jamaat’s hartal’

Freedom fighter and president of Sanmilito Sanskrit Jote Nasiruddin Yusuf Bachchu said his organization would prevent all protest programmes, including Wednesday’s hartal called by Jamaat-e-Islam and its student wing Chhatra Shibir.

He said: “Jamaat-Shibir men are launching attacks on the progressive people of the country, and now they are trying to make the situation worse by calling hartals in the name of protest.”

He made the assertion while addressing a rally staged by Sanmilito Sanskrit Jote demanding capital punishment for all war criminals, including Ghulam Azam, at TSC of Dhaka University on Tuesday afternoon.

Regarding the verdict of Ghulam Azam, he said: “We are disheartened by the verdict delivered by the tribunal. As a leader of war criminals, Ghulam Azam must be handed the death sentence.”

Asking the tribunal to reconsider its verdict, Yusuf said: “With all respect to the tribunal, I am asking the ICT to reconsider its verdict and ensure the death penalty for Ghulam Azam.”

He said it is disappointing that the marked war criminals were elected MPs, ministers and even president of the country.

Later, he announced a protest rally to be held at the TSC area at about 4pm on Wednesday, demanding the death penalty for all war criminals and protesting Jamaat’s hartal.

Among others, Ramendu Mazumder, Jhuna Chowdhury, Mamnur Rashid, Hasan Arif and Golam Kuddus joined the protest.
