Court grants remand for 4 quota protesters

A Dhaka court Sunday granted two days remand against four students, arrested in connection with vandalism on Thursday during the clash between police and anti-quota protesters.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim passed the order after hearing the remand prayer and rejected the bail petition.

The four accused are: Md Earshed and Md Shohidul Islam of Jagannath University; Md Maruf of Shahid Suhrawardy College and Md Jahangir Hossain Bhuyan of Kobi Nazrul Government College.

The verdict came as MA Jalil, inspector of Shabagh police station and investigation officer of the case prayed for five days remand for quizzing them.

On July 11, SI Md Abdur Rauf filed the case against 9 FIR listed accused and 1000-1200 unnamed demonstrators, who allegedly ransacked the DU VC’s residence and proctor’s office.

In addition, Dhaka University’s Chief Security Officer Kamrul Islam had filed a case accusing around 500 unnamed students following Thursday’s clashes and vandalism.
