Students of Rajshahi University (RU) blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway demanding the cancellation of the quota system for public jobs on Saturday morning.
The protesters barricaded the main gate of the university at around 10:30am, creating major traffic congestion on both sides on the highway.
Later, students returned to the campus and brought out a protest procession, reports banglanews.
Protesting students said they demanded the withdrawal of all types of quotas for recruitment of government jobs including BCS. They said the agitation would continue until their demand is met.
University Proctor Dr Tariqul Hasan urged the students to turn away from violence.
He assured the agitators that their demands would be placed to the authority concerned.
On Wednesday, a section of BCS job seekers who failed to come out successfully in the last BCS preliminary test, took to the streets.
In Dhaka, they seized the busy Shahbagh intersection, contributing to huge traffic jams on many key roads across the city.
Following the protest, the Public Service Commission decided to review the results of the competitive preliminary test.
