PM returns home

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home Wednesday afternoon concluding her weeklong official visit to the United Kingdom and East European Republic of Belarus.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the prime minister and members of her entourage landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:10pm.

Deputy Leader of the Jatiya Sangsad Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, LGRD and Cooperatives Minister and General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Syed Ashraful Islam, Minister for Textiles and Jute Abdul Latif Siddiqui, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Faruk Khan, Railway Minister Mujibul Haq, Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, Prime Minister’s Adviser HT Iman, Chief Whip Abdus Shahid and State Minister for Liberation War Affairs AB Tajul Islam, were present at the airport to receive the prime minister.

Cabinet secretary, chiefs of three services, PMO Secretary Mollah Wahiduzzaman, dean of the diplomatic corps and senior government officials were also present.

Earlier, she left Minsk for Dhaka on Tuesday night, wrapping up her two-day official visit to Belarus.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines VVIP flight carrying the prime minister and her entourage departed Minsk International Airport around 12 midnight local time.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Belarus Dr SM Saiful Huq saw the prime minister off at the airport.

During her stay in Minsk, Hasina had a bilateral meeting with Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail V Myasnikovich at the House of Government.

The prime minister cut her visit short by one day at Minsk and is expected to reach Dhaka at 1:50pm on Wednesday.

After the bilateral talks on Tuesday, both the countries signed seven instruments including two agreements and four MoUs, and had a joint press briefing.

The Belarusian prime minister also hosted a banquet on Tuesday evening in honour of Hasina at his ‘Frunze 15’ residence.

Hasina also visited the Victory Square in Minsk and paid homage to the people who died in World War II. She also visited the Minsk Automobile Plant.

During her visit, Hasina attended a Business Council Meeting of Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Belarus Chamber of Commerce and Industry where she and her Belarusian counterpart delivered speeches.

Hasina arrived at Minsk on Monday night from London as part of her official visit to Belarus.

Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail V Myasnikovich along with the cabinet members and high government officials received Sheikh Hasina at Minsk International Airport around 8:25pm local time.
