Shadhona’s new experimental production “Ultraviolet,” by Abu Naim, will be staged at the auditorium of dance and music centre Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday at 6:30pm.
The recital is based on contemporary dance, which draws from the Kathak tradition and diversifies into creative contemporary movements. The composition is a fusion of classical jazz, ballet dance, and Kathak.
In an interview, Lubna Marium shares about the dance drama with the Dhaka Tribune: “Life is a canvas that begins with the undifferentiated ultraviolet hue, then goes on to encompass a multitude of emotions. The circle of emotions keeps returning to a neutrality, only to begin another cycle.”
Abu Naim directs “Ultraviolet” as his first production after returning from a year in Kolkata with Rhythmosaic Dance Academy, under the tutelage of Mitul Sengupta and Shambhik Ghosh. The production is based on various classroom choreographies. He has been assisted in conceptualising works by Lamia Saiyara Mela, a dancer at Shadhona.
Abu Naim received a scholarship for his study in India from Shadhona, which received an endowment from the SAARC Women’s Association in Bangladesh.
