Members of the newly elected School Management Committee of Chandpur Non-government Primary School in Hariankundu upazila physically assaulted the headmistress of the school in her office room yesterday morning when she refused to put her signature on the book of resolutions.
The headmistress Shahnaz Parvin, 33, is now undergoing treatment at Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital. The headmistress is the daughter of Azmat Ali of the village.
Shahnaz Parvin said some local people – Fazlu Malita and Haidar Hossain – including the headmaster of Chandpur High School Hafizur Rahman were pressuring her to put her signature on a book following the formation of new committee for her school.
Due to her previous refusal to sign the book of resolutions, attackers forced her to sign it again; when she refused, they mercilessly beat her with sticks.
Hearing her screams, the local people rescued her and sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital. In the chaos, the attackers managed to escape from the spot.
The on-duty physician of Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital said the condition of the assaulted headmistress was critical, as there were several injuries on many parts of her body.
Harinakundu police station Officer-in-Charge Farid Uddin said they were informed about the incident by journalists.
However, no case had been filed in this regard so far.
