Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission sent a proposal on Sunday to the government to double its manpower.
The BTRC has 369 staff, of which 147 is vacant, according to their annual report. It now wants to raise the number to 698.
“Now the commission’s work load has increased a lot and that’s why we need to double our manpower,” said Giashuddin Ahmed, vice chairman of BTRC, told the Dhaka Tribune. “We have sent a proposal to the ministry today [Monday] and hopefully the ministry will take it positively.”
Earlier, the BTRC made a committee to study on the commission’s requirements. At a meeting on June, the committee proposed to increase number of staff to 820. BTRC approved 698 posts. BTRC launched with 40 staff in 2001. In 2008, The Commission raise it to 369. The BTRC had the power to change its own organogram. But now it needs government’s approval.
