The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Saturday arrested 13 persons including a police constable for “violating election codes” from Majlishpur under Gazipur sadar upazila.
Following the arrest, a mobile court convicted seven of the arrestees on the charge of “distributing money” to influence voters. They were each fined Tk3,000 while the six others were sent to police custody.
Voting at the maiden Gazipur City Corporation election polls began at 8am today.
Major Abhishek Ahmed, an officer at the legal and media wing of Rab, said members of the force, in a drive based on information about the money distribution, arrested the 13 from a polling centre area in Majlishpur early today.
