At least 15 people including two children and four women were attacked by organised extortionists over a land dispute at Purbo Saradubi village Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat yesterday.
The injured were admitted at Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex, locals said.
Barokhata Union Parishad (UP) member Rafiqul Islam said the land dispute between Zakir Hossain and Abdul Hai had been going on for eight months. A group of 10 to 12 extortionists, hired by Abdul, attacked Zakir’s house.
Zakir claimed the gang also looted assets worth about Tk300,000 from his residence.
The Barokhata UP chairman Abu Hena Mostafa Jamal Sohel admitted the matter and said Zakir, the legal owner of the disputed land, has been victimised by his neighbour Abdul.
Officer-in-Charge Tapos Sarker said he has heard about the incident but no case or complaint was placed with the police station.
