Shah Rukh-Gauri Khan's baby boy news confirmed

Days after media reports and speculations about SRK and wife Gauri bringing home another baby did the rounds, all doubts have been put to rest by a birth report sent to the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation).

BMC officials have received a birth report with details that a baby boy was born on May 27 to parents listed as Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Shah Rukh Khan at Masrani Hospital for Women in Andheri. The child was born at 34 weeks of pregnancy and weighed 1.5kg at birth, said BMC executive health officer Dr Arun Bamne.

The baby was reportedly taken from Masrani to Nanavati Hospital, Juhu, and finally to Breach Candy Hospital. It is believed that the child has been discharged from Breach Candy and is home with the Khans. The baby is widely reported to have been born by surrogacy, an arrangement in which a woman carries the child of another couple.

The news that the birth was as far back as May means the child was born before rumours surfaced in the media that the Khans were expecting a boy, raising suspicions of an illegal sex test on the foetus.

The civic body is now enquiring whether the alleged sex determination was done in Mumbai or not. "We are trying to determine whether the gender of the baby was disclosed before the child's birth. If the news report stating the child's gender appeared after his birth, there is no issue," said a senior civic official.

A girl child activist had filed a complaint with the BMC health department on the basis of news reports which claimed that the celebrity couple was having a baby boy through surrogacy.
