Anima Roy to perform at Press Club on Saturday

To celebrate the romantic air of monsoon, prominent Rabindra Sangeet artist Anima Roy will perform at the Dhaka Press Club on Saturday at 7pm. Recently Dhaka Tribune had the opportunity to catch up with Anima Roy:

What songs are you performing tonight?

The songs I will perform on Saturday are from the major parts of “Gitabitan” (Garden of songs written by Tagore). I will sing songs from “Puja” (worship), “Prem” (love), “Prakriti” (nature), “Swadesh” (patriotism), and “Aanushthanik” (celebration). I will start my performance with “Abaro Esheche Ashar Akash Cheye,” “Ami Ki Gaan Gabo,” “Monomor Megher,” “O Go Shantali Chele’” “Jhoro Jhoro Baryte Barydhara,” “Pagla Hawar Badol Dine,” and “Shawon Gogone Ghor Ghonoghota” is a must in my list and after that I will perform requests from my audience. It’s all about passion for singing and entertaining music lovers so their preference will be highlighted.

Tell us about your new album:

I am done with one of my new albums. Like always, I have tried to give my best in the album, it is not too difficult for me, as I love singing. Right now I am a little bit busy with my new born baby and family. I am thinking of releasing my next album featuring Tagore’s songs at the end of this year from Bangladesh and Kolkata.

What are you occupied with currently?

I am busy with performing onstage and currently I am well occupied with numerous stage shows. It is quite challenging to perform gracefully and confidently in presence of an audience. I will also be appearing in musical programs on TV. On the other hand, I am focusing on my music school “Surbihar.” End of this year, I am planning to celebrate its eighth anniversary.
