Painting exhibition of working children

A painting exhibition titled “Our Colourful Dreams” began on Thursday at Bengal gallery, in the city’s Dhanmondi area, to expose the potentials of child workers.

The exhibition was hosted by Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK). 

Senior Deputy Director of child rights unit of ASK, Gita Chakrabarti, delivered the welcome speech at the program. She said,

“ASK dreams of such a Bangladesh where every children will get equal rights.”

ASK has been working for child rights for the past 20 years through which many working children got several opportunities including education and health. Besides they can learn painting with which ASK organises exhibition every year.

“I am very happy as they organise an exposition every year. One of my painting was sold last year,” said Zarin Akhter, a child worker and a student of ASK. Another student Md Nur Uddin Hossain said he painted the collapsed Rana Plaza, where he tried to depict the grief of people through his canvas.

A total of 90 images were exhibited, some of them were painted on the theme of liberation war of Bangladesh, mother language day and the 1971 genocide.

Secretary General of ASK ZI Khan Panna said, “ASK had started its operation in small scale. Now, we have come a long way since its inception in 1986. We wish these children will work for the development of the nation and we hope one day every child will get equal opportunity.”

Painter Saida Kamal said she became very happy when she was offered to work for oppressed children and is pleased to be a part of it.
