The Election Commission (EC) has finalised the delimitation of 53 parliamentary constituencies under 19 districts ahead of the general elections, which is around 19% of the total constituencies.
The delimitation was finalised Wednesday at the full commission meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad. The commission has also sent the delimitation of the parliamentary constituencies to the Bangladesh Government press for publishing the gazette.
EC Deputy Secretary Mihir Sarwar Morshed said they have only changed 53 of the constituencies out of the total 300 which was finalised back in 2008. He said the Dhaka district saw changes in Dhaka 14 and Dhaka 19 constituencies.
“However, the number of constituencies under a district have not changed, only the delimitation. The rest 247 constituencies remain the same as in 2008,” he added.
The changed 53 parliamentary constituencies are – Rangpur 1, Rangpur 3, Kurigram 2, Kurigram 3, Kurigram 4, Bogra 1, Bogra 2, Jessore 3, Jessore 4, Jessore 5, Jessore 6, Khulna 1, Khulna 6, Patuakhali 1, Patuakhali 2, Patuakhali 3, Pirojpur 1, Pirojpur 2, Pirojpur 3, Jamalpur 2, Jamalpur 3, Mymensingh 2, Mymensingh 3, Mymensingh 4, Netrokona 2, Netrokona 5, Dhaka 14, Dhaka 19, Gazipur 2, Gazipur 3, Narsingdhi 1, Narsingdhi 2, Narsingdhi 3, Narsingdhi 5, Narayanganj 3, Narayanganj 4, Sunamganj 4, Sunamganj 5, Brahmanbaria 1, Brahmanbaria 2, Brahmanbaria 3, Comilla 6, Comilla 7, Comilla 8, Comilla 10, Chandpur 1, Chandpur 2, Chittagong 5, Chittagong 6, Chittagong 8, Chittagong 13, Chittagong 14 and Chittagong 15.
The previous EC changed the delimitation of 125 constituencies in 33 districts as per the population which resulted in the increase of constituencies in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Netrokona and Gazipur districts.
