The Bangladesh Cricket Board ad-hoc committee will hold an urgent meeting on Board premises on July 2.
Agendas to be discussed at the meeting are the troubled Dhaka Premier League, the long awaited Board election and issues related to the progress of new venues for the World Twenty20 which will be held in Bangladesh next year.
The delay in starting the DPL – the preeminent national 50-over competition – has frustrated cricketers, for many of whom the tourney is the prime source of income. The BCB president Namzul Hasan’s declaration that the tournament would start in the next 13 days came as a relief to many, but there are still loose ends to be tied up at the meeting.
The BCB has been troubled with slow progress on the work on venues for the T20 mega event, which has become a concern for the International Cricket Council (ICC) too.
The ICC was most concerned about the brand new Cox’s Bazar Stadium, which will host the matches of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20. According to Nazmul, the ICC were reassured on the matter after the BKSP ground was offered as a possible alternative venue.
The BCB election will also be a burning issue at the meeting. The three months time frame for the ad-hoc committee to hold the election is long past and the lack of progress in bringing the polls into being has raised many eyebrows and elicited much criticism. Nazmul said on Monday at a press brief at the airport that election would be held in a month.
