Chittagong Customs has introduced ASYCUDA World, the most recent automated system for managing customs data, on Monday. The system was designed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Mohammed Nasir Uddin, a member of the National Board of Revenue, and also the project director, inaugurated the system at a function with the customs commissioner Mashud Sadique in the chair. Nasir, in his address, said taxation activities would be easier with the introduction of the new system as transparency would also be ensured. He also said that it would initiate an era of paper-less taxation activities.
The project manager Sayad Musfiqur Rahman told Dhaka Tribune that the earlier ASYCUDA++ and data-soft systems would also remain functional till August adding that they would go on ASYCUDA World system fully after the period.
He also said the importers would be able to submit their documents online under the system introduced with an expenditure of Tk100m. He said 90 countries of the world had so far shifted to the system.
