Ayub Bachchu walks out from ‘Bangladeshi Idol’

“Bangladeshi Idol” starts with drama, as one of the judges of the show legendary rock star Ayub Bachchu walked out from the set after a disagreement in a statement with Co-judge Ferdousi Rahman.

The first episode of “Bangladeshi Idol” aired Friday on SATV that featured auditions from Dhaka, a divergence of opinion broke out between the two judges over the last contestant named Sheela Rani Debi. Sheela’s classical-based singing was much appreciated by the other three judges, which Ayub Bachchu thought as lacking in variety. During the assessment process, remarks on band music and guitar-playing by Ferdousi Rahman prompted AB to walk out.

Sometimes later Ferdausi Rahman too left the set of “Bangladeshi Idol.

About the incident AB said, “It’s a musical reality show. I am from band music, that does not mean I will promote and encourage band singers only. I feel that it is not the right approach and we will miss out on artists with versatility if we stick to a single genre.

But, in the very first episode I have seen this. If anyone has training in classical music, he or she is praised as a singer. But, musicians with band background was criticised. Why this bias? ‘Bangladeshi Idol’ is not about that at all. I am upset about Ferdousi Rahman’s critical comments on band music, she is our senior and like my mother and we all look up to her. That was the reason, I walked out from the show. I am not even sure about continuing!”

Ferdausi Rahman said, “Bachchu is like my son. Mother and son could have disagreement on some points. It will be fine soon. But, I am upset because this episode was broadcasted live on television. I am in doubt that I will continue as a judge of the show!”

Production Company Delta Bay did not comment on the incident. Both the judges later said it was an unexpected incident, but did not disclose anything about their presence on the upcoming episode.
