8th Wage Board: Chairman submits report

The Eighth Wage Board submitted its report to Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu recommending a 70% raise of the Seventh Wage Board’s gross salary for the media journalists and press workers.

Chairman of the wage board Kazi Ebadul Haque handed over the report to the information minister at the secretariat Sunday morning.

Mir Akram Uddin Ahmed, public relations officer of the information ministry, told journalists that the Eighth Wage Board for the media industry would be declared within two weeks.

He said the report also recommended a 50% increase of the gross salary for other facilities.

Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) General Secretary Shaban Mahmud said: “The minister has assured us that he would announce the Eighth Wage Board within two weeks after completing necessary formalities.”

The Eighth Wage Board was formed in June last year in line with Bangladesh Labour Law 2006.

The Seventh Wage Board was formed and implemented in 2008.
