Agitated locals put up a barricade onthe Dhaka-Sylhet Highway on Friday morning after a robbery took place in the house of a Khelafat Majlish leader a tBahubal upazila in Habigaj.The blockade disrupted traffic on the highway for four hours, reports UNB.
The family members claimed that a gang of robbers numbering 10 to 12 entered the house of Mawlana Jaki by breaking the grill of the first floor and looted valuables worth Tk175,000 and 42 tolas of gold ornaments.
Locals chased the robbers after hearing screams of the residents of the house.The robbers fled the scene leaving their private car with fire arms and a sketch of the house they raided, said the witnesses.
Following the incident, locals blocked the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Bahubal from 4am to 8am. Additional Superintendent of Police Tofayel Ahmed ensured that the robbers were arrested and the people withdrew the barricade.
