Voters concern at rumours of shifting headquarters

Ahead of the maiden Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls, rumours shrouded the area that the headquarters of the city corporation would be shifted to Tongi if ruling Awami League backed candidate Ajmatullah Khan won the polls.

Earlier, during the formation of the GCC, similar rumours spread among the locals.

However, Ajmatullah denied such allegations, and said it was negative propaganda that had no impact on the mass voters.

“Voters are now conscious enough and they will never fall into such types of trap,” he said.

Ajmatullah, who was elected several times from the Tongi municipality, said they have to face a lot of negative propaganda and it was just like the others.

On the other hand, MA Mannan, BNP-led 18-party alliance backed mayoral candidate, also an inhabitant of Gazipur, did not comment in this regard.

Meanwhile, Shohel Ahmed Mamun, a voter of ward 23 said: “We cannot drop the matter of localism from our.” He also said that many voters he personally knows who are free from political affiliation are very much concerned about it.

An election office source said over 1m voters are expected to cast their votes in the GCC poll, scheduled to be held on July 6.
