GPIT, a full subsidiary company of the country’s leading mobile operator Grameenphone, is going to take a strategic partner to strengthen its investment in the market, sources in the company said.
The US-based IT firm Accenture will acquire a 51% stake in GPIT, and a deal in this regard will be signed anytime in next few weeks.
Rony Riad Rashid, chief corporate affairs officer of GPIT, confirmed the move, but didn’t want to make any comment about it.
Raihan Shamsi, chief executive officer of GPIT, was tried to reach over phone, but he did not respond to calls.
It was learned that GPIT management conveyed the message of decision to give majority stake to Accenture at a closed door meeting yesterday.
The meeting sources said the GPIT management will meet Accenture authorities and the stake handover is expected to occur after September. The meeting was still going on when this report was filed yesterday evening.
“Over the last few months, the negotiations were being held between Accenture and GPIT. The both parties finally reached a decision,” a high official of GPIT, who was present at the meeting, told the Dhaka Tribune.
Back in January 28, 2011, Grameenphone launched the country’s leading IT service company GPIT.
GPIT always claims it is an international B2B company with a profit balance and stable corporate clienteles’ right from the very first day it was launched.
But in last two years, the company has struggled with different things.
GPIT started its journey with IT support from Grameenphone. Then, they got Telenor group’s IT-supported works.
This company has been awarded two certificates by the International Organisation for Standardisation - ISO 20000 - for IT Service Management and ISO 27001 for Information Security Management System.
