16 killed in separate incidents across the country

At least 16 people were killed in separate incidents across the country on Tuesday and Monday.

Of them, six were killed and four others were injured in the capital.

A construction worker aged around, 30, died when he fell off a running truck at Banani Monday afternoon.

From Mirpur area, police recovered the body of an unidentified youth at noon of Monday.

Masud Rana, sub-inspector of Shahali police station, said the youth might have been killed three or four days ago.

Meanwhile, Helal Uddin, 23, a construction worker, was killed after falling off the second floor of an under-construction building in the city’s Siddiqbazar area on the same day. 

Mohammad Rayhan, 20, a tailor was killed after a bus hit him at Khilgaon while he was travelling on a van with his friends at around 2:30am on Tuesday.

Nasima Begum, 45, wife of Ahmedul Hasan, allegedly committed suicide by drinking Savlon at Pallabi on Tuesday.

Rajia Akter, daughter of Nasima, said her mother had been suffering from cervical cancer for the last three years and came back home three months ago after having been treated at Ahsania Mission Cancer Hospital.

She might have committed suicide to get rid of the pain, family members said.

Another woman Modina Begum, 50, allegedly committed suicide by taking Harpic at Pallabi over family feud. All the bodies were sent to DMCH morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, our Sirajganj correspondent reported that at least 10 people were killed and five others injured in two separate road accidents Tuesday and on Monday.

Of them, seven people were killed and five others were injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Bogra Highway in Ghurkabeltola area under Raiganj upazila.

Police said a Dhaka-bound truck collided head-on with a CNG run human hauler, killing seven people on the spot and injuring five others.

On the other hand, three more people were killed in another road accident in Gati area on the Dhaka-Sirajganj highway on Monday morning.

A police truck collided head-on with a CNG run auto-tempo, killing two on the spot.

Another person succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
