Drishtipat stages ‘Raja Himadri’ today

After a successful year of staging the play “Raja Himadri,” theatre troupe Drishtipat brings a special show today, celebrating the occasion at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at 6:30pm.   The play, which is the 21st production of Drishtipat, has been adapted from Greek classic “Oedipus” by Sophocles and is directed by Dr Khandaker Tazmi Noor.    Last year, Drishtipat premiered “Raaja Himadri” which gives an interesting look to the great Greek tragedy.    Raja Himadri tells the story of King Himadri, a sympathetic, arrogant leader who was soul-searching for his real identity. Himadri, the king of Himalayans, who ascends the throne after the killing of Chadnrashekher, is accepted as her husband by Indrani, the Queen of the Himalayans. King Himadri and his wife Himrani live happily together until a stranger arrives one day and discloses Himadri’s dark secret. The secret opens a bleak chapter in the royal couple’s life and finally separates them.   Then King Himadri seeks the answer to the question “Who am I and from where have I come from?” and becomes haunted when he encounters the truth.l
