M Bodiuzzaman becomes interim chairman of ACC

Following a cabinet division order, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) commissioner M Bodiuzzaman was appointed as the interim chairman of the commission on Monday.

Confirming the issue, ACC secretary M Faizur Rahman Chowdhury told the Dhaka Tribune: “M Bodiuzzaman will serve as the interim chairman of the commission until the government appoints a new chairman for the ACC”.

Bodiuzzaman was assigned to duty from Monday, since the ACC’s recent past chairman Ghulam Rahman completed his tenure of four years on Sunday.

On June 16, a five member search committee, headed by the supreme court appellate division Justice Foyez Siddiqi, was formed to select a new ACC chairman. The other members of the committee are: High Court judge Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury, chairman of the Public Service Commission Ahmedul Huq Choudhury, Comptroller and Auditor General Masud Ahmed, and a retired cabinet secretary M Abdul Aziz. This committee would send two names to the president to select one as the ACC chairman.

Three people on the list of choices for ACC chairman: former principal secretary of the Prime Minister`s Office Abdul Karim, former chairman of National Board of Revenue Nasir Uddin Ahmed, and former Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force and ambassador at large M Ziauddin. The names of ACC commissioners M Shahabuddin Chuppu and M Bodiuzzaman were also included on the list.
