Former Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Lutfar Rahman Sarkar, 80, died in a city hospital on Monday morning, reports UNB.
Lutfar Rahman breathed his last at Apollo Hospitals Ltd around 8am, said a BB press release.
Lutfar Rahman served as the 6th governor of the central bank from November 21, 1996 to November 21, 1998.
His first namaz-e-janaza will be held on the Bangladesh Bank premises at 1pm while the second one at Dhaka University Central Mosque after Asr prayers on Monday.
He will be later buried at the family graveyard in Bogra.
Meanwhile, BB governor Dr Atiur Rahman who is now in Switzerland expressed deep shock at the death of Lutfar Rahman.
In a condolence message, he also conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
