BNP will support Yunus, Grameen Bank

Main opposition BNP will stand by all development efforts of Grameen Bank and Dr Muhammad Yunus.

Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, the vice-chairman of the party, made the remark while talking to journalists on Sunday. A BNP delegation, led by Mobin, met Dr Yunus at the Yunus Centre.

They handed over a congratulatory letter from the party chief Khaleda Zia to the Nobel laureate on winning the Congressional Medal of Honor, the highest civilian honour of the United States.

Terming Yunus as “pride of the country and wishing him a long life, Khaleda praised Yunus for wining such an accolade."

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mobin reiterated BNP’s support to Grameen Bank and Yunus. He said: “BNP will always remain beside to protect the Grameen Bank’s integrity and its founder Muhammad Yunus.”

Mobin added, “Grameen Bank’s contribution in development of the rural people is rare in history. BNP will stand by Grameen Bank’s integrity and is committed to move it further forward.”

Later, speaking to journalists, Yunus said: “I received the Congressional Medal on behalf of the country and its people. It's an achievement for the whole country.”

The delegation also included Dr Osman Faruk, adviser to the BNP chairperson.
