Accused snatched from police custody

A group of villagers forcibly snatched away an accused from police custody after his arrest at Pachpukuria village in Manohorgonj upazila in Comilla district on Friday evening.

Officer-in-charge Monohorgonj police station Jahirul Islam said a team of police went to the village to arrest one Shahjahan Kabiraj, 50, along with an arrest warrant in the evening.

At one stage, Shahjahan’s followers attacked police and snatched him away from while they were on their way to the police station, UNB reported.

After being on the loose, handcuffed Shahjahan ran way.

Two police personnel Sub-Inspector Abu Hanif and Constable Liakat Hossain were injured during the attack. They were admitted to the Laksam Upazila Health Complex. Police began a drive soon after to arrest Shahjahan again, the OC said.
