Gemcon literary award-giving ceremony 2013 held

Gemcon literary award-giving ceremony 2013 was held at Bangla Academy auditorium in the city Saturday.

Assistant Prof Ahmad Mostafa Kamal of Independent University was awarded Gemcon Literary Award-2013 while Mehedi Ullah – a Bangla Department student of Jahangirnagar University – Young Storytelling Award of Gemcon.

Among others, Gemcon Group Chairman Kazi Shahid Ahmed, Litterateur Hasan Azizul Haque, Prof Syed Manzoorul Islam, poet Belal Chowdhury, poet Asad Chowdhury and Indian storyteller Swapnamoy Chakrabory were present.

Ahmad Mostafa Kamal was presented with the award for his writing “Kanna Parba” which depicts the story of helpless people of Manikganj and Mehedi Ullah for “Postmaster and Others” representing social injustice.

Gemcon Group Chairman Kazi Shahid Ahmed gave away Tk2,50,000 to Mostafa and Tk75,000 to Mehedi.

The awardees were also given crests.

Kazi Shahid Ahmed in his concluding speech said whenever any story comes to mind – be it at late night – write it down and it would be helpful to writers.

Gemcon Group Director Kazi Anis Ahmed in his welcome speech said Gemcon group has been giving literary awards to inspire the young writers since 2000. 

After the award-giving ceremony, eminent Nazrul Singer Fatema-tuz-Zohra stole the show through rendering songs of Poet Nazrul Islam.
