Road blockade enters second day in Sylhet

A road blockade imposed on eight entry roads of the district by Sylhet District Truck Workers Union has entered the second day on Saturday, reports UNB.

The truckers started the blockade protesting an attack on them by the locals on eight entry roads including Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, and Sylhet-Tamabil road around 9pm on Friday.

Quoting the truckers, Dakkhin Surma police station Officer-in-charge Nasir Uddin Ahmed said: “They will not lift the blockade until their demands are met.”

Meanwhile, police officers tried to remove the trucks but failed to do so.

Earlier on Friday, the locals vandalised some 46 trucks at different points of the city when they the trucks entered the area before 10pm.
