A student of American International University of Bangladesh (AIUB) died as he sustained injuries while practicing swimming at the swimming pool of University of Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Fahim Shahriar Chowdhury, 20, son of Jalal Uddin Chowdhury.
Jalal Uddin is a member (Company Affairs) of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
Shahbagh thana SI MA Jalil confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Witnesses said Fahim jumped from the swimming diving board at 12.30pm while practicing swimming and sustained severe lungs injuries. Immediate after the incident, he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
DU sources said Fahim used to come to the swimming pool for practice on regular basis.
A General Diary (GD) has been filed with Shahbagh thana in this connection.
