A sudden transport strike hit ten south-western districts of Khulna Division on Tuesday, bringing immense suffering to passengers.
Khulna Divisional Regional Committee of Transport Workers called the strike in the morning without any prior notice in Khulna, Jhenidah, Jessore, Magura, Narail, Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Bagerhat and Satkhira, demanding a hike in their salary and daily allowances.
Our correspondents from the Khulna region reported that a tight strike was observed in their districts.
Our Jhenidah correspondent reports, while the strike was observed in the district, bus terminals were almost empty and hundreds of long route passengers were waiting for hours.
Jhenidah Bus-Minibus Transport Workers General Secretary Abdul Gaffar said the strike might be continued for an indefinite period if the authority fails to fulfil their demands. The communication on the Satkhira-Dhaka route was halted due to the strikes.
