10 fall victim to ‘Ogyan Party’ in city

At least 10 people fell prey to several organised gangs known as Ogyan Party in the capital Tuesday and lost everything they had with them.

The 10 are now fighting for their lives in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Sources said the gangs, which dope their targets before robbing them of money and belongings, are active at different parts of the capital. Impressionable commuters are their main targets.

Police and DMCH sources said at least five to 10 people get admitted to the DMCH everyday, falling prey to the gang members.

Dodging the law enforcers and intelligence personnel, they prey on some targeted commuters and leave them unconscious anywhere.

The hospital sources said of the 10 victims, Saiful Islam, 35, an employee of Export Processing Zone, was found in an unconscious state in a bus after it parked in front of the Bahadur Shah Park in old Dhaka around 3:00pm.

Hailing from Tangail, Saiful was supposed to return to Azimpur Maternity where his wife gave birth to a son three days ago.

Saiful’s brother-in-law said: “It is a mystery to us how he went to Bahadur Shah Park. He went to Narayanganj in the morning from his Kalyanpur residence and was supposed to go Azimpur.”

He said Saiful had Tk10,000, two cellphones and some other valuables in his possession, but exceptthe cellphone, everything was gone.

“An unknown person rang us using Saiful’s mobile to say that Saiful was lying unconscious on the footpath,” the relative said, adding that his condition is very critical and he did not get back his sense till 8:00pm.

Like Saiful,MdAlamgir, 35, owner of a mini-garment factory in Uttara, was found near Signboard area on his way to Kanchpur from Jatrabari while Md Maznu, 32, at Kalyanpur at 6am, Robin, 24, at Nababpur Alubazar at 2am, and Faruk Ahammed, 40, at Shahbagh.

Besides, an unidentified man aged about 55 was found at Jatrabari while another unidentified man, maybe 50 years of age, at Gulshan, a 30-year-old man at Shahbagh, and another 35-year-old at Paltan in the capital.
