Grameenphone, Banglalink bosses in Dhaka

The chairman of Grameenphone board Sigve Brekke and the Group CEO of Banglalink’s parent company Asia Africa BU Vimpelcom Abou Doma have arrived in Dhaka yesterday.

They are here to negotiate with the regulator on some important issues including licence and 3G spectrum auctions, said the sources in these two mobile operators of the country.

Sigve Brekke already attended a meeting with Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission chairman Sunil Kanti Bose. Grameenphone chief executive officer Vivek Sood and other high officials were also present at the meeting yesterday.

According to the sources, the meeting which lasted more than two hours discussed about the upcoming 3G auction and some other issues of the country’s telecom industry.

The Grameenphone visiting boss presided over a board meeting in GP House in the city.

Sigve Brekke, also the executive vice president and head of the Telenor Asia operations, is set scheduled to meet with finance minister AMA Muhith today.

 “Our concern reduces when finance minister assures of continuing Grameenphone’s licence,” a board member told the Dhaka Tribune.

The visiting Banlalink’s parent company boss, who was also former chief executive officer of the operator, attended a meeting with his commercial team yesterday.

Abou Doma has a scheduled meeting with BTRC chairman this morning. He will also talk to the journalists later in the day.
