Pregnant woman dies from ‘wrong’ treatment

A pregnant woman along with her newborn baby died from alleged wrong treatment in Lohagora upazila of Narail on Thursday.

Eva Begum, 23, wife of Ripon Sarder of Itna Southpara village of the same upazila, was admitted to Dalia Surgical Clinic in the C&B road area under the influence of clinic owner Hanna Sheikh.

The victim’s relatives alleged that the doctor who conducted the operation - Shamim, along with other staff members went ahead with the operation without having any knowledge of the surgical procedures.

According to sources, during the course of the operation, the condition of both the mother and her child kept deteriorating. Consequently, they died at around 6pm.

The death of Eva sparked protest among the locals, who in turn became agitated and blocked off the clinic. However, the accused doctor and the clinic owner managed to escape.

On being informed, Lohagora Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rebeka Khan and Officer-in-Charge of Lohagora police station Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury visited the premises.

A case was filed in this regard with the Lohagora police station.
