BSF ‘sorry’ for killing two Bangladeshis

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday expressed sorrow over the killing of two Bangladeshi cattle traders along Putkhali border in Jessore’s Benapole area on Wednesday.

Rendering apology to Jessore regional commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Brig Gen Rabiul Ibn Quamrul over phone, BSF Kolkata regional commander Inspector General Santosh Mehera termed the incident "unexpected."

He also informed that an investigation was launched against the accused BSF men. “Legal action will be taken against them if they were proved guilty.”

Habibur Rahman, 25, and Faruque Hossain, 26, were shot dead and two others injured by the BSF members along Putkhali border in the early hours of Wednesday.

Commanding officer Lt Col Tayeful Haque of BGB 23 Battalion said as per the border agreement, the BSF members cannot shoot unarmed Bangladeshis to death.
