JS watchdog promotes potato

A parliamentary watchdog, Government Assurances, suggested that authorities should promote the consumption of potato to ease pressure on rice – a campaign initiated by the last military-backed government.

“We have to promote potato to reduce pressure on rice,” said Prof Ali Ashraf, chairman of the organisation, told members at its meeting at the parliament building, a parliament secretariat release said.

The committee said the government should ensure fair prices for potato growers.

“An adequate number of cold storages should be built for potato preservation,” said the chairman.
