JS body for updating National Energy Policy

The parliamentary standing committee on the ministry for power, energy and mineral resources on Wednesday suggested that the ministry update the National Energy Policy soon.

The recommendation was made at the 48th meeting of the committee at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its Chairman Mohammad Subid Ali Bhuiyan presiding, said an official release.

The meeting was told that daily power generation has increased to about 6,300MW from 3,268MW during the tenure of the present government.

Besides this, the government has undertaken projects to set up 33 more power plants in both the private and public sector. When completed, these plants will contribute a further 6,707MW to the national grid.

The meeting was told that the government has taken various initiatives to develop renewable energy. Later it asked the ministry to introduce the government initiatives to the public through media.

The progress of implementation of the decisions taken in the last meeting was discussed in the meeting.

Committee members, including State Minister Mohammad Enamul Haq, along with other relevant officials attended the meeting.
