Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Tuesday voiced deep concern as the new national budget is going to have a provision allowing the black money holders to whiten their illegal money.
The graft watchdog urged the Finance Minister not to give any such scope for whitening black money in the next budget, report UNB.
In a statement on Tuesday, TIB executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said, “The news about the scope of whitening back was published in media, which is contradictory to the government’s commitment to establish the rule of law and combat corruption.”
He said the scope of whitening black money is unconstitutional, inequitable, unethical, and in favour of graft.
“If the government gives opportunity to whiten black money in the national budget, it will in fact promote corruption and injustice; not the honesty and fairness.”
Iftekharuzzaman said governments, since the country’s independence, have given opportunities 17th times to whiten black money.
