The workers Party of Bangladesh yesterday alleged that corruption and human avarice have ultimately led to the collapse of Rana Plaza at Savar.
Describing the incident as man-made disaster, Lawmaker Rashed Khan Menon, also president of the Workers Party, said greedy attitude and corruption among people are responsible for the fall of Rana Plaza.
“We need to save the nation from such attitude,” he said, urging people to come forward to unite to remove such dishonesty from the society.
Praising the rescue operation by commoners, he said, “Ordinary people from the society have contributed a lot to the task. It has proved that humanity has won and success of humanity is a must”.
Menon said this while addressing a reception ceremony for rescue workers of Rana Plaza at National Academy for Planning and Development auditorium.
The programme was organised by Workers Party of Bangladesh.
“It is a cultural tradition of Bangladesh to support people and stand beside them. It was proved earlier in many nationwide disasters and recently, people have expressed the same attitude during the Savar Rana Plaza collapse,” he said.
“Without thinking about what they have and what not, people have put their best possible efforts to support the rescue operation,” he added.
The party also placed its seven-point demand that includes ensuring compensation for the dead and injured workers.
Crest and medals were handed over to 200 rescue workers and 10 organisations for their contribution to the rescue operation.
