Miscreants set the house of a Buddhist family on fire over land dispute at Thakurpara in the city early Tuesday.
Locals said the house of Dr Sugato Barua at Battala near Thakurpara Buddhist Temple came under the arson attack, reported UNB.
On information, a firefighting unit from the city rushed in and doused the blaze after half an hour of their frantic efforts with the help of locals.
Deputy Commissioner M Tofazzal Hossain Mia, police super Tutul Chakraborti and other high officials visited the spot in the morning.
On Sunday night, a group of criminals threatened the inmates to withdraw a case, filed against local Awami League leader Omar Faruque over a land dispute, and vandalised valuables at the house.
The house owner later filed a case in connection with the attack.
The victim’s family alleged that the Sunday’s attackers might be involved in the arson attack.
Contacted, the AL leader, however, denied the allegation of involvement of his supports in the vandalism.
