Another person injured in the crane accident at Jurain in the capital yesterday, died at a private hospital in the city, raising the death toll to five.
The fifth victim died at Labaid Hospital around 1:30am. He was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 27, a resident of Old Dhaka’s West Dholaipara.
The crane collapsed while salvaging an overturned truck on Sunday killing four people including an eight-year-old bystander on the spot.
Abdur Rashid Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shyampur Police Station said the truck overturned near Setu Market at Jurain on Sunday afternoon and a crane was called to remove it around 3:30pm. A large crowd gathered at the spot, and despite repeated requests law enforcers were unable to disperse them.
The OC said the accident occurred when part of the crane collapsed.
Until 4pm yesterday three victims of the unfortunate incident were yet to be identified, said OC Rashid.
