At least five people were killed as a crane fell apart while pulling an overturned truck in the city’s Jurain area on Sunday night.
Two of the deceased were identified as Tareq, 8, an onlooker and a student of class II and Shafiqul Islam, 27, son of Hazi Oliwallah of Munshiganj.
Shafiqur Rrahman, a sub-inspector at Shyampur Police Station, said the crane collapsed while lifting the goods-laden overturned truck in front of Setu Market in Jurain around 9pm, killing three people on spot and injuring at least six others.
Of the injured, Tareq and an unidentified person died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 10:15 pm, Shafiq told UNB.
Those who died on the spot is yet to be identified, the SI said. The injured were admitted to different city hospitals.
