Miles, one of the top Bengali bands, was supposed to rock in a FM radio program with Fossils, the band considered to be the pioneer of rock acts in Kolkata’s Bengali music scene.
On the special occasion of the Independence Day of India these two bands planned to perform at the Azaadi concert, a show meant to go on air from Red FM on August 13.
Fossils had objections to sharing the same platform with Miles. They claimed that some members from Miles constantly and continuously posted hateful status updates on their Facebook profiles regarding India.
Red FM later cancelled on both the bands and decided to go on with the program without them. However, now Fossils is going to take part in the concert with Chandrabindu, another Indian band.
A Facebook fanpage began the hashtag trend #BoycottMiles and pointed out how the main members of Miles (Hamin Ahmed and Shafin Ahmed) interminably thrashed India with “distasteful comments” since the 2014 World Cup days.
After that Fossils also declared their stand with the fan club saying, “As for Fossils, it is very clear that our only objection was performance of Miles – whose music we have all grown up listening to but who have been extremely vocal against India openly in their social networking pages.”
After their allegations, Miles decided not to perform at their concert and canceled the proposal. Miles stated, “This is completely unexpected of them. We, as a band, have known Fossils for many years. It saddens me how they tried to block our arrival.”
